We double-twist element ends that are 14 gauge and thinner. We do not twist element ends on 13 gauge, 14 gauge, and 11 gauge wire or the thicker APM wires. We used to twist 13 gauge wire element ends but found that the increased mechanical stress was a problem. With our ceramic element terminals and stainless steel element terminal hardware, performance, and element life are fine with the non-twisted thicker elements.
