What happens if I order the wrong voltage or phase?
What happens if I order the wrong voltage or phase?
L&L's policy for helping with voltage mistakes
- If you ordered a 240 volt kiln and you have 208 volts, you will get about 25% less power out of the kiln. If you can live with this, then you may not have to do anything. If you need the full power, you will need to change all the elements to 208 volt elements.
- If you ordered a 208 volt kiln and you have 240 volts, you must change the elements because the kiln will draw too much power and you will burn out the electricals inside the control box, to say nothing of what you could do to your own power lines.
Easy-Fire and eQuad-Pro kilns
What has to happen?
- If just the voltage is wrong (and not the phase), then the only thing that needs to get changed is the elements. Because of our ceramic element holders and industrial grade terminal blocks, changing elements is very easy and most customers can do this quickly. Visual instructions are included in the instruction manual that goes with the kiln.
- If you ordered the wrong phase or the wrong voltage and phase you will probably need to change the elements and the control panel. We will swap the control panel for the right panel. You pay for the shipping to and from us.
What will it cost?
- Changing voltage on e23S and e28S kilns will cost $135.
- Changing voltage or phase on an e23T, e28T, SM23T, or SM28T kilns will cost $160.
- The one exception is to change phase on an e23T-240, e23T-240-3P, SM23T-240, SM23T-240-3P. This will only cost $55 because elements do not have to be changed – only the panels.

- If you ordered the wrong phase, you will probably have to change the terminal block inside the control panel (if changing from single phase to three phase), and you will have to change a few wires around.
- Elements are all the same for single phase and three phase Jupiter and Davinci kilns (of the same voltage), so if the voltage doesn’t change, you won’t have to change elements.
- We will do the rewiring in our factory if you send the panel to us.
what will it cost?
- Elements and any other parts like the terminal board will be charged at 40% of retail price (60% discount).
conditions
- It must be for a brand new kiln that was recently sent out.
- We will ask for the serial number.
- We may ask for the old unused elements back.
- You pay for shipping both ways.
