SHIPPING & PAYMENT TERMS
FOR L&L KILNS
PAYMENT TERMS
- The most common form of payment is Visa, MasterCard or American Express credit card. We also accept money orders, checks, and wire transfers.
- Contact us for information on how to send a wire transfer. Generally speaking, because of the fees involved for the purchaser it does not make sense to use a wire transfer for less than about $1000
- Payment by wire transfer, money order or credit card will allow immediate processing of your order.
- Payment by personal check requires a three-week delay for check to clear the bank.
- No COD’s. on kilns (COD’s for parts are OK). (COD refers to “Cash on Delivery”)
- Purchase orders are accepted from schools and companies; however, credit must be preapproved.
FREIGHT AND HANDLING CHARGES FOR KILNS
- Skidded cartons or crates are included in the cost of the kiln. There is no extra charge for packing.
- If you pick up a kiln at the factory we would not pack the kiln unless you wanted it packed for a truck. We can load the kiln in your car, truck or van. However, this must be coordinated with the shop production manager ahead of time to make sure you have enough room and proper equipment for doing this. We reserve the right not to load the kiln in a way that could be unsafe or could cause damage. You MUST have enough room available to load the kiln easily (for instance, we are not going to stuff a kiln into an already overloaded van).
- Freight charges can be quoted verbally or in writing if requested.
- We are happy to prepay and add freight charges. The freight charges will normally be separately invoiced from the kiln.
- You can have the kiln shipped freight collect if you prefer. (This is where the freight charges are paid by you; it does not refer to COD charges for the kiln itself - which we do not allow). You typically should have an account with the trucking company for this or else they will need a check when the kiln is delivered.
- Shipping class for all kilns is class 85.
- We ship by common carrier. We try to use only freight lines that we have had good experience with. If you specify your own freight company you will be completely responsible for filling any damage claims. WE RECOMMEND YOU LET US CHOOSE THE FREIGHT CARRIER. [Click here for more information on shipping damage.]
- Because of our excellent packaging we have very little freight damage. However, it does happen on occasion. It is usually obvious from the condition of the crate or carton. If you notice an obviously damaged carton the best thing you can do is refuse delivery. Then the kiln will be taken back to the shipping terminal and inspected there and more than likely returned to us. The shipping company retains possession and responsibility. If the damage seems minor then at the very least mark that it is received damaged. SEE OUR ENTIRE STATEMENT ABOUT SHIPPING DAMAGE.
- Tailgate loading is normally available at an extra charge of $75. Tailgate loading trucks have elevators on the back of the truck that allow a heavy kiln to be lowered to the ground. If you don’t have a loading dock this is probably essential. This may result in a delay in delivery because typically there is only one tailgate loading truck per truck terminal.
- Remember that common carrier shippers use large trucks. If you have an unusually difficult driveway for a truck to navigate they may insist on delivering it to the top of the driveway. You may want to have the kiln delivered to a terminal and then unpack the kiln at the terminal and load it into you car, van or pick up truck. The sectional construction of our kilns makes this possible. You would need at least two people to do this.
- If you need to have the trucking company call you before delivery (for instance, if you are not always at the delivery address) this must be mentioned with your order (there is a check-off for this on our handy order form). There is a $25 charge for this notification.
FREIGHT AND HANDLING CHARGES FOR SMALL PARTS
- We ship small parts by UPS or Federal Express. We choose the cheapest one based on our experience. In general packages going west of the Mississippi tend to be cheaper by Federal Express and east of the Mississippi tends to be cheaper by UPS. Large orders of shelves and tops and bottoms typically go out by motor freight.
- You can specify Next Day or Second Day Air. If not specified the parts will ship out regular UPS Ground Service or Express Saver Package (Federal Express).
- UPS charges or Federal Express charges are at scale rate.
- C. O. D. Charges add $7.00 to the cost.
- Insurance charges are automatically added when the value exceeds $100.00

EXPORT SHIPMENTS
- We can ship parts by Federal Express, UPS, or DHL. Kilns go by various steamship companies or airlines.
- Kilns typically ship by ocean freight and get consolidated onto a container by a US shipper. Airfreight is very expensive for kilns because of their weight and the size of the cartons or crates. However, some customers need this and we can accommodate the need.
- We can get a quote on CIF charges from a freight forwarder for shipment to any country. Typically this includes inland freight from our factory to the shipping port, ocean or airfreight, insurance, paperwork charges and insurance.
- Kilns and parts typically must ship to an importing broker in your country and we will need a name and address. Any import duties and taxes must be paid in the destination country.
- To get a quote we will need to know the destination port or, in the case of airfreight, an airport. It typically takes 3 working days to get a foreign freight quote.
