Firing Piezo Ceramics: Some companies that use our kilns in to fire piezo ceramics are developing piezoelectric ceramic polymers. Our kilns are often used for burn out of binder in the matrix for stability in the green state.

Piezo-ceramic materials are categorized as functional ceramics. In sensors they make it possible to convert forces, pressures and accelerations into electrical signals, and in sonic and ultrasonic transducers and actuators they convert electric voltages into vibrations or deformations. Piezo-ceramic materials are classified according to their chemical composition on the one hand, and by the specific application conditions on the other. Materials for power transducers (ultrasonic applications) - Barium Titanate and Lead Zirconate Titanates (PZT) and also polycrystalline ceramics.

Any time you are burning out a binder or an armature of any sort you want to make sure you have the kiln properly ventilated. Certain materials can be progressively corrosive to the kilns controls, its sheathing and the elements. Please be encouraged to consult with an L&L technician regarding these precautions.
