USING POTTERY KILNS FOR GLASS

RECOMMENDATIONS

  • The ideal thermocouples are the Pyrocil thermocouples because these are more precise and closer to the actual temperature of the kiln - which is critical for glass. (Make sure that the standard 18 Deg F thermocouple offset is programed out of the DynaTrol when using these thermocouples)

  • The DynaTrol kiln control will work fine. Just ignor the ceramic "Easy-Fire" programs and use the "Vary-Fire" programs instead.

  • Our standard zone control is very helpful for ensuring proper firing of glass. It is best to set the LAG to 5 Deg F when firing glass.

  • Slow down the firing. With no elements on the top you will want the firing to take long to ensure even heating.
  • Position the glass object towards the center of the kiln - again to ensure eveness of heating.
  • Read a complete step-by-step instruction sheet for how to fire glass in a pottery kiln

DEDICATED GLASS KILNS

THE CHAMELEON: A GREAT SMALL HOME GLASS HOBBY KILN: This multi-purpose home hobby kiln features L&L's hard ceramic element holders in the firebrick top - for dust-free glass fusing. The kiln is super safe with a circuit-breaker on/off switch, element shut-off switch (that turns elements off when the door is opened), and attached stand. The square design is perfect for glass work but you can also do PMC, low-fire ceramics and knife heat-treating. Runs on 120 volts, 18 amps.[Click here for Information]
