Fire Ceramic Extrusions

Extruding ceramic has a multitude of processes and applications. Industrial extrusions are common to create honeycomb for the diesel particulate filter industry, clay pipes and bricks as well as fine parts for motors and insulators. Typically an extrusion is contains a ceramic forming component made plastic by a liquid vehicle and stabilized by a cellulose binder. Less complex applications will use a simple clay body. The material is then machine driven through a die that gives it its desired shape.

Challenges

The challenges faced in the extrusion process vary depending on the project. Honey comb extrusions are very slow and need to be handled with great care.

Kilns

The most popular kiln series for this application is the Da Vinci Bell-Lift system. Having the body of the kiln lift up off its base allows for loading from three sides or loading with a forklift. If you require a different solution please contact L&L and we will advise you accordingly.
