Surprising, not all kilns come with an on/off switch. This means you MUST turn off the kiln with either the circuit breaker or the fused disconnect switch. While it is good practice to turn off a kiln in that way it is not always convenient.
Some say an on-off switch is not needed and that this is one more thing to break. Our on-off switch doesn't break. Why wouldn't you want to be able to turn off a major appliance that you don't use all the time? In fact we have heard of kilns starting a firing cycle by themselves during an electrical storm because of lack of an on-off switch.
The 1/2 amp fuse is accessible from outside the panel.
