Art Tiles

Typical ceramic firing methods are used and temperature ranges will depend on the clay bodies used.

Challenges

These firings tend to be very dense loads. Most people will use tile racks or short post heights between shelf layers. This dense loading may slow the firing time which would put more strain on the elements at higher temperatures. Tiles are fired more evenly and efficiently in square or rectangular kilns.

Market

The market for hand-made art tiles is increasing. They make a great decorative item in a kitchen or bathroom or even for monumental work in public spaces. Commercial applications include subways and corporate offices.

Kilns

L&L's DaVinci kilns and our various front-loading kilns make great kilns for firing art tiles. The three-zone control helps the evenness of firing dense loads. These kilns are square or rectangular.
